There has been a growing debate over natural gas and the environment. President Barack Obama has said we must move away from natural gas, oil and coal. Instead, he pushes for alternative sources, such as, solar, wind and biofuels. On the other hand, power utilities have seen the writing on the wall on capping carbon emissions and are embracing natural gas. Though coal is still cheaper, natural gas emits half as much carbon to generate the same amount of electricity.
Daniel Yergin (Pulitzer Prize winning author and chairman of an energy consultancy) says, “The question now is how does this change the energy discussion in the U.S. and by how much? This is domestic energy … it’s low carbon, it’s low cost and it’s abundant. When you add it up, it’s revolutionary.”
